153 years ago today, the FIRST flood to completely inundate the town of Cahawba was happening. Nearly 3,000 P.O.W.s were trapped inside a crowded warehouse that had been converted into a prison during the Civil War. These captured Union soldiers stood for days in water up to their knees or deeper. All this misery just a month before the end of that bloody war. Hear more of the story on our Civil War Walking Tour, Sat. April 7, 10 am.
